With the onset of the Spanish Civil War, he moved to Paris and opened his couture house on Avenue George V in August 1937.. Within two years, he was being lauded as a revolutionary, and his designs were highly sought-after.On the 120th anniversary of the birth of Balenciaga, the Cite de la Dentelle et de la Mode have dedicated an exhibition to the works of the couturier.
The accompanying catalogue will present the lacework of Balenciaga in all of its forms, while displaying the designers stylistic ingenuity and originality at the forefront of fashion design throughout the 1950s and 1960s.
Full ensembles, accessories, hats, gloves, shoes, come together with photographs and sketches from the workshop to recreate a vast panorama of the creative output of Balenciaga in relation to the history of lace.
