Sixteen new pieces of short fiction by American literary icon Kurt Vonnegut, featuring a foreword by Dave Eggers.
While Mortals Sleep delivers sixteen long-buried, brilliant short stories dating from early in the author's career. Featuring more than a dozen pieces of artwork done by Kurt Vonnegut himself, this collection also includes a foreword written by Dave Eggers.
KURT VONNEGUT was a master of contemporary American literature. His black humor, satiric voice, and incomparable imagination first captured America's attention in The Sirens of Titan in 1959, and he was established, in the words of The New York Times, as a true artist with the publication of Cat's Cradle in 1963. He was, as Graham Greene declared, one of the best living American writers. Vonnegut passed away in April 2007.
DAVE EGGERS is the author of six books, most recently Zeitoun, a nonfiction account of a Syrian American immigrant and his extraordinary experience during Hurricane Katrina, and What Is the What, a finalist for the 2006 National Book Critics Circle Award. Eggers is the founder and editor of McSweeney's, an independent publishing house based in San Francisco that produces a quarterly journal, a monthly magazine (The Believer), and Wholphin, a quarterly DVD of short films and documentaries.
