Denis Hillier is an aging British agent on his last assignment. His old school friend Roper defected to the USSR long ago, to become one of the evil empire's great scientific minds. Biografía del autor

Anthony Burgess desarrolló una intensa carrera como educador en Gran Bretaña y Malasia entre 1960 y 1976. Desarrolló su actividad creativa tanto en el campo de la literatura como en el de la música, alcanzando justa fama como compositor. Escribió música de cámara y algunas obras para orquesta, y publicó entre otros libros un ensayo sobre Joyce, una panorámica de la ficción contemporánea y varias novelas: Inside Mr. Enerrby, Nothing like the Sun, The Wanting Seed, Trémula intención y Poderes terrenales. La mayor parte de su obra literaria se sitúa fuera del campo de la ciencia ficción y la literatura fantástica, pero su novela más conocida se inscribe precisamente en este género
