The Three Musketeers follows the career of an impoverished young gentleman, D'Artagnan, who sets off to Paris to seek fortune as a member of the King's guard. Once there, he meets Porthos, Athos and Aramis, the musketeers of the book's title, and embarks on a daring and exciting series of adventures. France is under threat, and the friends must use all their guile and ingenuity to outwit the dastardly schemes of Cardinal Richelieu and the glamorous spy, Milady. This edition is abridged.

Biografía del autor

Alexandre Dumas nació en Villers-Cotterêts, al norte de París, en 1802. Fue secretario del duque de Orleans y pasante de un notario. Su pasión por la lectura y la historia lo convirtieron en un prolífico escritor, destacando sus obras x{0026}lt;em Los tres mosqueterosx{0026}lt;/em , x{0026}lt;em El conde de Montecristox{0026}lt;/em o x{0026}lt;em La reina Margotx{0026}lt;/em . En 1824 nació su hijo Alexandre, autor de x{0026}lt;em La dama de las cameliasx{0026}lt;/em . Republicano, apoyó la revolución de 1848; pero cuando ésta fracasó tuvo que huir a Bélgica. Su voluminosa obra escrita le dio fama y riqueza, si bien murió casi arruinado el 5 de diciembre de 1870.
