Biografía del autor

Rainer Maria Rilke (Praga, 1875 x{0026} x02013; Raroña, 1926). Fue un poeta y novelista austriaco considerado uno de los escritores más importantes de la historia tanto en lengua alemana como en el contexto de la literatura europea universal. Su poesía, de carácter simbolista y mística, coloca en primer plano el sentido existencialista de la vida experimentado por el autor, que como muy pocos poetas de una época u otra fue capaz de captar la esencia más íntima de nuestro mundo a partir de la observación y la escucha de lo real y sus resonancias. Entre sus obras poéticas más importantes cabe señalar las Elegías de Duino y los Sonetos a Orfeo ; mientras que en prosa pueden destacarse, además de la presente obra, su contrapartida titulada Cartas a un joven poeta o Los cuadernos de Malte Laurids Brigge .
