Susan E. Hinton nació en Tucsa (Oklahoma-EE UU) en 1950. Pronto abandonó su carrera para casarse, pero se llevó los recuerdos y las vivencias de sus años de estudiante, para plasmar en sus obras personajes y conflictos de aquel ambiente. Es una de las autoras de más prestigio y calidad de la nueva narrativa norteamericana. Con sólo 16 años se lanzó a la fama con su obra Rebeldes, que sería traducida, inmediatamente, a muchos idiomas y llevada al cine por Francis Ford Coppola. Seleccionado como el mejor libro dirigido a los jóvenes, Rebeldes ha sido galardonado también por los libreros de Estados Unidos.
