(Seudónimo de Samuel Langhorne Clemens, Florida, Misuri, 1935 - Redding, Conética, 1910) es, junto a Herman Melville y Edgard Allan Poe uno de los padres de la narrativa estadounidense contemporánea. Se ganó la vida como impresor y cajista, piloto de vapor en el Misisipi o buscador de oro en Nevada y California. Sus novelas Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer y, sobre todo, Las Aventuras de Huckleberry Finn lo consagraron como uno de los escritores más importantes de su tiempo.
