Francis Scott Fitzgerald es uno de los escritores estadounidenses más importantes del siglo pasado y uno de los más destacados representantes de la llamada " Generación perdida " junto a Faulkner y Hemingway, entre otros. Nació en Minnesota, en 1896, en el seno de una familia católica irlandesa. Junto a su mujer, Zelda, vivió intensamente, tanto en Estados Unidos como en Francia, aquellos locos años veinte de animadas fiestas, alcohol, sexo y jazz que impregnarán su obra. Su primer éxito literario se produjo en 1920 con la edición de " A este lado del paraíso " . Cinco años después publicó " El gran Gatsby " que con los años se convirtió en un clásico de la literatura norteamericana. Posteriormente vendrían otras dos de sus grandes obras, " Suave es la noche " y " Hermosos y malditos " . Los últimos años de su vida los pasó en Hollywood, donde murió en 1940.
