The Good Story is an exchange between a writer with a longstanding interest in moral psychology and a psychotherapist with a training in literary studies. J. M.

Coetzee and Arabella Kurtz consider psychotherapy and its wider social context from different perspectives, but at the heart of both their approaches is a concern with stories. Working alone, the writer is in sole charge of the story he or she tells. The therapist, on the other hand, collaborates with the patient in telling the story of their life.

What kind of truth do the stories created by patient and therapist aim to uncover: objective truth or the shifting and subjective truth of memories explored and re-experienced in the safety of the therapeutic relationship? Drawing on great writers like Cervantes and Dostoevsky and on psychoanalysts like Freud and Melanie Klein, the authors offer illuminating insights into the stories we tell of our lives.

x{0026}lt;P x{0026}lt;B J.M. Coetzeex{0026}lt;/B nació en 1940 en Ciudad del Cabo, Sudáfrica. Allí se crió y más tarde cursó estudios universitarios para luego irse a la Universidad de Austin, Texas, y doctorarse en Literatura. En 1972 volvió a Sudáfrica, y desde entonces es profesor en la Universidad de Ciudad del Cabo, además de traductor, lingüista, crítico literario y, sin duda, uno de los escritores más importantes que ha dado Sudáfrica.x{0026}lt;/P x{0026}lt;P Premio Nobel de Literatura en 2003, ha sido galardonado con numerosos premios, entre los que destaca el prestigioso premio Booker, que ganó en dos ocasiones, con x{0026}lt;I Vida y época de Michael Kx{0026}lt;/I (2006) y con x{0026}lt;I Desgraciax{0026}lt;/I (2000).
