El nombre de Tui viene de un extraño y ruidoso pájaro neozelandés, aunque ella nació en Venezuela, se ha criado en Estados Unidos y ha vivido en muchos países alrededor del mundo. Actualmente vive en Boston, donde ha escrito varias series de libros de fantasía infantiles, algunas bajo el pseudónimo de Erin Hunter.
