David Halberstam fue un periodista norteamericano e historiador, autor de quince libros. Su carrera empezó en la segunda mitad de la década de los cincuenta con la cobertura del Movimiento por los Derechos Civiles y continuó en los sesenta con una corresponsalía durante la guerra de Vietnam. Posteriormente, se dedicó al periodismo deportivo, centrándose especialmente en el baloncesto.
