Biografía del autor

Alessandro Manzoni, autor de la novela Los novios , fue uno de los grandes escritores de la literatura italiana del siglo XIX. Nació en Milán en 1785, ciudad donde falleció en mayo de 1873. Era nieto de Cesare Beccaria, gran jurista y célebre representante de la Ilustración lombarda. En su juventud fue partidario de ideas racionalistas y libertarias a causa de la influencia del ambiente cultural e intelectual francés. Frecuentó en Milán el mundo de los prófugos nacionalistas en plena efervescencia política aunque, decepcionado por los jacobinos, comenzó a frecuentar los círculos liberales parisinos hasta su conversión al catolicismo en 1808, que marcaría el resto de su vida.
