Biografía del autor

(Nueva York, 1862 - Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt, Francia, 1937). Nació en el seno de una familia de la alta sociedad. Se casó con un aristócrata doce años mayor que ella, de quien se acabó divorciando. Fue muy independiente para su tiempo, viajó sola por toda Europa y realizó largas estancias en París. Fue la primera mujer que ganó un Pulitzer, galardón que obtuvo por La edad de la inocencia. En esta nouvelle denuncia la dependencia económica de las mujeres de la alta sociedad, en la que las apariencias eran sumamente importantes. Tras llevarnos al Nueva York de los sesenta en La solterona, ahora nos traslada al de los setenta en El día de Año Nuevo, dos relatos reunidos en el volumen The Old New York , en el que retrata las costumbres de la Época Dorada de la ciudad.
