The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of twelve stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle, featuring his iconic detective. Venture back in time to Victorian London to join literature's greatest detective team the brilliant Sherlock Holmes and his devoted assistant, Dr. Watson as they investigate a dozen of their best-known cases. Originally published in 1892, featured tales include several of the author's personal favorites: "A Scandal in Bohemia" in which a king is blackmailed by a former lover and Holmes matches wits with the only woman to attract his open admiration plus "The Speckled Band," "The Red-Headed League," and "The Five Orange Pips." Additional mysteries include "The Blue Carbuncle," "The Engineer's Thumb," "The Beryl Coronet," "The Copper Beeches," and others.

Biografía del autor

Arthur Conan Doyle nació en Edimburgo en 1859, en una familia donde casi todos destacaban en alguna actividad artística. En su ciudad natal se educó en una escuela pública y después pasó a un colegio de jesuitas, donde conoció bien a los prosistas latinos y a los clásicos ingleses, principalmente a Shakespeare. Posteriormente, estudió Medicina en la Universidad de Edimburgo hasta 1881. En 1886 termina de escribir x{0026}lt;i Estudio en escarlatax{0026}lt;/i , donde definía el personaje de Sherlock Holmes, quien protagonizaría muchas de sus historias hasta 1926 (x{0026}lt;i El signo de los cuatrox{0026}lt;/i , x{0026}lt;i El sabueso de los Baskervillex{0026}lt;/i , x{0026}lt;i Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmesx{0026}lt;/i ...). No obstante, Doyle también creó otros personajes singulares, como el profesor Challenger (protagonista de varias novelas, entre ellas x{0026}lt;i El mundo perdidox{0026}lt;/i ), y escribió novela histórica, que según confesó era su máxima aspiración literaria. En 1902 recibió del gobierno el título de x{0026}lt;i Sirx{0026}lt;/i , y falleció en 1930 en Crowborough (Inglaterra) de un ataque al corazón.
