Georges Bataille nació en Le Puy-de-Dôme en 1897 y falleció en París en 1962. Desde 1925 y hasta su muerte, entró en contacto con todos los movimientos intelectuales, literarios y filosóficos de su tiempo. Su obra revolucionó las divisiones tradicionales entre filosofía, poesía, novela y reflexión religiosa, y se compone de novelas como Madame Edwarda, Mi madre o Historia del ojo, y ensayos como El erotismo, La experiencia interior, Sobre Nietzsche o La parte maldita.
