Ted Hughes, one of England's foremost poets, and Poet Laureate since 1984, is also a haunting reader of his own work. On this recording he reads his own choice of more than fifty poems from the first twenty years of a literary career that began with the publication of 'Hawk in the Rain' in 1957. In particular, the programme includes a generous selection from two of his most powerful and distinctive works: 'Wodwo' (1967) and 'Crow' (1970).

Fue nombrado poeta laureado en el Reino Unido, el poeta oficial de la Reina, título que obtuvo en 1984 y que conservó hasta su muerte. También es muy conocido por su matrimonio con la poeta estadounidense Sylvia Plath, que se suicidó en 1963. De esa relación surgió uno de sus libros más celebrados Cartas de cumpleaños (1998).
