La afición de Roger Lancelyn Green (1918-1987) a mitos y leyendas floreció durante sus años de estudiante en la universidad de Oxford, donde se enriqueció con una duradera pasión por Grecia y su cultura. También le fascinaron las obras de teatro clásicas y la reelaboración de los mitos antiguos. A partir de 1946 publicó un gran número de libros: biografías de sus autores favoritos, relatos originales para niños y unos cincuenta volúmenes con su personal visión de las leyendas tradicionales, como la de x{0026}lt;i El rey Arturo y sus caballeros de la Tabla redondax{0026}lt;/i (Siruela, 1996).
