(Los Ángeles, California, 1949). Es autora de una veintena de obras de ficción y ensayo. Desde 2001 forma parte de la Academia Estadounidense de las Artes y las Letras. En Sexto Piso hemos publicado La edad del desconsuelo (1987; 2019), Un amor cualquiera (1989; 2020), La mejor voluntad (1989; 2021) y Heredarás la tierra (1991; 2023), que le valió el Premio Pulitzer de narrativa y el Premio Nacional de la Crítica (National Book Critics Circle Award). Un poco de suerte (2014; Sexto Piso 2025) es la primera parte de la Trilogía de los cien años, a la que le siguen Una advertencia (2015) y La edad dorada (2015).
