Biografía del autor

William Morris nació en Walthamstow (Inglaterra) en 1834 y murió en Londres en 1896. Fue un individuo renacentista en pleno apogeo del capitalismo industrial, un esteta refinado ante la vulgaridad de la producción en masa, un poeta atraído por ensoñaciones medievales y antiguas sagas nórdicas, un diseñador textil de energía inagotable y un agitador socialista ferviente y convencido. Aunque es la fuente de su originalidad, esta pluralidad de facetas en la obra de Morris ha dado también origen a la distorsión de su legado y al olvido de la potencia política que subyace a esa pluralidad de intereses: una misma aspiración al goce de la belleza y la plenitud de la vida, al trabajo como ámbito para la realización y la felicidad humanas y a la justicia social como condición para su consumación.
