Resumen del libro

The textures of his characters are rough and his commentary about them sharp, but then, each is probably a real person. His spaces are often dank, tangled and interrelated, but then, he is generally writing about London. Ackroyd is best known for his intense urban fiction (such as Hawksmoor) and his equally intense biography, but Lewis (fiction, U. of Sunderland) includes all Ackroyd's body of work in this first comprehensive critique. Along with a suitable amount of biographical ink Lewis integrates works as diverse as Dressing Up, Transvestism and Drag with Chatterton, Dickens and Milton in America. The result is necessarily far-ranging and ambitious, but gives novices as well as aficionados a good idea of Ackroyd's occupations and place within postmodernism
