Biografía del autor

James Hilton nació en 1900 en Leigh, Lancashire, Inglaterra. Al ser hijo de John Hilton, el director de la Chapel End School en Walthamstow, desde pequeño estuvo muy conectado con el mundo docente. Escribió su primera novela, Catherine Herself (1920), mientras estudiaba en Cambridge, pero fue gracias a las obras que publicó mientras trabajaba como periodista en Manchester Guardian y Daily Telegraph por las que conoció un fulminante éxito internacional, especialmente con Horizontes perdidos (1933) y Adiós, señor Chips (1934), esta última inspirada en la figura de su padre y en W. H. Balgarnie, uno de sus profesores. De ambas novelas se hicieron múltiples adaptaciones cinematográficas en Hollywood. En 1935 se fue a vivir a Estados Unidos para trabajar de guionista y ganó un Óscar con la película La señora Miniver. Hilton murió en 1954 en su casa de Long Beach, California.
