Covering a wide range of topics and texts, Invention of Space explores ways in which space has been represented and recreated during the twentieth century in Spanish and Catalan literature. It deals from a comparative perspective with concepts related to space as applied to two different situations: writing the city and traveling through the world. Writers design cities, interpret their names, deal with inner borders, express a fear of modern life, or draw an alternative yet imaginary history, in Barcelona, Madrid or Paris.
