Biografía del autor

Jorge Volpi (Ciudad de México, 1968) es ensayista, narrador y dramaturgo. Licenciado en Derecho y maestro en Letras Mexicanas por la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), y doctor en Filología Hispánica por la Universidad de Salamanca. Ha sido profesor en las Universidades de Emory, Cornell y Las Américas de Puebla. Fue miembro del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de México y becario de la Fundación John S. Guggenheim, así como director del Instituto México en París. Durante cuatro años dirigió el Canal 22, televisión cultural del Estado mexicano, y colabora con el diario El País. Entre sus novelas se encuentran En busca de Klingsor (1999, Premio Biblioteca Breve), El fin de la locura (2003), No será la Tierra (2006), La tejedora de sombras (2012), Memorial del engaño (2014) y Una novela criminal (2018, Premio Alfaguara). Asimismo, sus libros de ensayos más importantes son La guerra y las palabras. Una historia intelectual de 1994 (2004) y El insomnio de Bolívar (2009). En 2018 hizo su debut como dramaturgo con la obra El origen del mundo, que fue estrenada por la Compañía Nacional de Teatro de México. Las agujas dementes es su nueva obra de teatro.
