Luigi Luca Cavalli-Sforza (Génova 1922) ha sido profesor en diversas universidades y en la actualidad es profesor emérito de la Universidad de Stanford y doctor honoris causa por la de Cambridge. Considerado uno de los mayores expertos en genética de poblaciones del mundo, es autor de numerosos libros sobre su especialidad. Entre sus obras más importantes figura, además de ¿Quiénes somos?(Crítica, 1994 y 2005), este Genes, pueblos y lenguas.
