Katya Balen es codirectora de Mainspring Arts, una organización sin ánimo de lucro que organiza talleres creativos para personas autistas y neurodivergentes. Estudió Filología Inglesa y realizó un máster sobre el impacto de la literatura en el comportamiento de los niños autistas. Cuando no escribe libros o tiene algún proyecto entre manos, le gusta visitar páginas web de refugios de acogida para perros, hornear pan e intentar mantener vivas las plantas de su casa. Vive en Londres con sus perros, Raffi y Mouse, y su compañero, que es psiquiatra del Servicio Nacional de Salud británico. Es autora de varias novelas y libros ilustrados. Su segunda novela, Octubre, Octubre , muy bien acogida por la crítica, fue elegida Libro de la Semana por el diario 'The Times', que lo calificó de clásico moderno, y ganó en 2022 la Medalla Yoto Carnegie, uno de los premios literarios más prestigiosos del país.
