(Nueva York, 1933 - México, 2008) es el seudónimo más reconocido del escritor norteamericano Donald E. Westlake, autor de un centenar de novelas y relatos breves de género negro. Tan prolífico como admirado, la Asociación de Escritores de Misterio de los Estados Unidos le concedió tres premios Edgar Allan Poe y le distinguió, en 1933, con el prestigioso título de Gran maestro del Misterio. En 1990 fue nominado a un Oscar al mejor guión por la adaptación cinematográfica de la novela Los timadores de Jim Thompson (SN, 151). Ingenioso y descarnado, el estilo literario de Westlake ha servido para que varias de sus obras hayan sido llevadas a la gran pantalla, como en el caso de la película Playback, basada en A quemarropa (SN, 154) y protagonizada por Mel Gibson, o Two Much, protagonizada por Antonio Banderas y Melanie Griffith.
