Karl Sigmund es profesor de Matemáticas en la Universidad de Viena. Es uno de los pioneros de la Teoría evolutiva de juegos, y por sus contribuciones en las matemáticas ha sido reconocido con la cátedra Gauss y el premio Isaacs. En 2010 la Universidad de Helsinki lo nombró doctor honoris causa. Miembro de pleno derecho de la Academia de Ciencias de Austria, ha publicado numerosos artículos, editado obras matemáticas y participado en conferencias por todo el mundo.
