With the publication of her first book, Against Interpretation, in 1966, Susan Sontag placed herself at the forefront of an era of cultural and political transformation. This volume, edited by Sontag's son David Rieff, presents the full texts of four essential books: Against Interpretation, Styles of Radical Will (1969), On Photography (1977), and Illness as Metaphor (1978). Also here as a special feature are six previously uncollected essays including studies of William S. Burroughs and the painter Francis Bacon and a series of reflections on beauty, aging, and the emerging feminist movement.

x{0026}lt;P x{0026}lt;B Susan Sontagx{0026}lt;/B (1933-2004) inició su carrera literaria en 1963, con la publicación de la novela x{0026}lt;I El benefactorx{0026}lt;/I , pero fue a partir del reconocimiento internacional de sus ensayos reunidos en x{0026}lt;I Contra la interpretaciónx{0026}lt;/I cuando se consolidó como una de las principales figuras de los movimientos intelectuales de los años sesenta. Desde entonces su prestigio no ha hecho más que aumentar, tanto por sus obras comopor su implicación en la denuncia de los grandes problemas sociales y políticos contemporáneos. En 2000, su novela x{0026}lt;I En Américax{0026}lt;/I fue galardonada con el National Book Award. En 2001 recibió el Premio Jerusalén por el conjunto de su obra, y en 2003 el Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Letras y el Premio de la Paz, concedido por los libreros alemanes.
