Hegel's Encyclopaedia Logic constitutes the foundation of the system of philosophy presented in his Encyclopaedia of the Philosophical Sciences. Together with his Science of Logic, it contains the most explicit formulation of his enduringly influential dialectical method and of the categorical system underlying his thought. It offers a more compact presentation of his dialectical method than is found elsewhere, and also incorporates changes that he would have made to the second edition of the Science of Logic if he had lived to do so.

This volume presents it in a new translation with a helpful introduction and notes. It will be a valuable reference work for scholars and students of Hegel and German idealism, as well as for those who are interested in the post-Hegelian character of contemporary philosophy.

Biografía del autor

G. W. F. Hegel nació en Stuttgart, capital de Suabia, en 1770. Tras haber estudiado teología en Tubinga se ganó la vida como preceptor privado hasta que en 1801 se incorporó a la Universidad de Jena bajo la protección de Goethe, a quien fue fiel toda su vida. En 1807 se liberó de la absorbente influencia de Schelling al publicar La fenomenología del espíritu y ese mismo año empezó a trabajar como redactor en un periódico de Bamberg hasta su nombramiento como rector del Instituto de Núremberg en 1809. En 1816 pasó a la Universidad de Heidelberg y dos años después a la de Berlín, ciudad donde permaneció hasta su muerte en 1831. Es uno de los más grandes pensadores universales. Zubiri decía que Hegel representaba la madurez de Europa.
