Theodor Fontane (1819-98) ist der bedeutendste Erzähler des literarischen Realismus. Der gelernte Apotheker machte mit 30 Jahren das Schreiben zum Beruf, zunächst als Journalist und Theaterkritiker. Erst spät begann er erfolgreich Romane und Erzählungen zu schreiben. Seine Romane und Novellen, die vielfach verfilmt wurden, zählen zu den meistgelesenen Klassikern des 19. Jahrhunderts.<br>
