Dr. Seuss, born Theodor Seuss Geisel, was a writer, cartoonist, animator, book publisher, and artist. He illustrated and wrote 44 children's books during his lifetime, including The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hears a Who, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Fox in Socks, and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Dr. Seuss was awarded two academy awards, two Emmy awards, a Peabody award, and a Pulitzer Prize for his various literary works. He was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts and died September 24, 1991 in La Jolla, California.
