Laurent Binet nació en París en 1972. Hizo el servicio militar en Eslovaquia y ha vivido en Praga. Es profesor en la Universidad de París III. Su primera novela, HHhH (Seix Barral, 2011), fue galardonada con el Premio Goncourt de Primera Novela, el Premio de los lectores de Livre de Poche y le valió el Premio al autor revelación de Lire, además de ser publicada en más de treinta y cinco países y adaptada al cine. La séptima función del lenguaje (Seix Barral, 2016) también fue reconocida en 2015 con el Premio Interallié, el Premio de Novela FNAC y el Premio de los lectores de Lx{0026} x02019;Express, además de ser seleccionada para el Premio Rénaudot, el Premio Femina, el Premio de Flore y el Premio literario de Le Monde. Con Civilizaciones (Seix Barral, 2020) ha revalidado su éxito una vez más al recibir el Gran Premio de Novela de la Academia Francesa.
