Resumen del libro

Any avid reader will understand the joy of finding an 'unputdownable' book, and will have asked themselves the question, what next? With 100,000 new books published each year in addition to the enormous wealth of literature already in print this can be a difficult question to answer.

The Bloomsbury Good Reading Guide opens up the full spectrum of books, time-honoured and contemporary. More than 350 major authors, from Margaret Atwood to Émile Zola, through Bruce Chatwin, Aldous Huxley, and Neville Shute, are arranged in alphabetical order, each with a short article on style, influences, settings, theme, along with a list of their salient works. At the end of each entry, a 'Read On' section directs readers to similar works by other authors. For the most influential works of literature, 'Pathways' lead readers to more books with similar themes; e.g. for War and Peace, eighteen suggested titles are grouped under the themes of Tsarist Russia, Napoleon and the Napoleonic Wars, All Human Life is Here, and War and its Aftermath. For those new to English literature, there are 'Startpoints' for reading around nine main genres, including Biography, Crime, Letters and Diaries, Science Fiction and Fantasy, and Travel.

Features more than 4,000 books and 350 author profiles
Read On sections lead the reader to other books in a similar style
Read-on-a-Theme listings point the reader to other books they are likely to enjoy
