Mo Yan (pseudónimo de Guan Moye, yque significa literalmente no hables )nació en una familia de granjeros. Dejóla escuela muy joven, durante la RevoluciónCultural, para trabajar en una fábrica. Posteriormente se alistó en el Ejército Popular de Liberación.
