Biografía del autor

Primo Levi (1919-1987) nació en una familia judía instalada en el Piamonte. En 1941 se licenció en Química en la Universidad de Turín y dos años después se unió a la resistencia antifascista en el norte de Italia, donde fue capturado por la policía fascista y deportado al campo de concentración de Auschwitz. En 1945, después de un azaroso viaje por Europa, relatado en el libro La tregua, regresó a Turín y escribió su primer testimonio, Si esto es un hombre (1947), una de las memorias más valiosas, traducidas y leídas sobre los campos de exterminio.
