Kahlil Gibran (Líbano, 1883 x{0026} x02013; Nueva York, 1931) fue poeta, pintor, novelista y ensayista. En el mundo árabe, a pesar de haber escrito buena parte de su obra en inglés, está considerado como el genio de su época. Sus libros están traducidos a múltiples idiomas y sus pinturas son expuestas en las grandes capitales del mundo. Publicada en 1923, El profeta es su obra maestra y tuvo un éxito inmediato, convirtiéndose desde entonces en uno de los libros de sabiduría espiritual más importantes y haciendo de Gibran el tercer poeta más leído en todo el mundo, solo superado por Shakespeare y Lao-Tse.
