Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832-1898), más conocido como Lewis Carroll, fue el mayor de los once hijos de un pastor protestante. En 1850, ingresó en la Universidad de Oxford, donde estudió Matemáticas y Humanidades, licenciándose en Lógica Matemática con sobresaliente. Después, trabajó como bibliotecario y más tarde fue profesor en el Christ Church College, con lo que su permanencia en la ciudad universitaria se prolongaría cerca de cincuenta años. También siguió la carrera eclesiástica, hasta el grado de diácono, pero sin llegar a ser sacerdote. También fue un gran aficionado a la fotografía, en un momento en que la cámara acababa de inventarse, e instaló en su casa un estudio fotográfico. Entre sus obras, encontramos artículos satíricos para periódicos, un libro sobre fotografía, varios tratados de Matemáticas, muchos poemas y, sobre todo, su libro más universal: x{0026}lt;i Las aventuras de Alicia en el País de las Maravillasx{0026}lt;/i (1865), al que siguió x{0026}lt;i A través del espejo y lo que Alicia encontró allíx{0026}lt;/i (1871). Más tarde, en 1890, publicaría x{0026}lt;i Alicia para los pequeñosx{0026}lt;/i , adaptación para niños de cinco a ocho años; y otra novela, x{0026}lt;i Silvia y Brunox{0026}lt;/i (1889).
