Es arabista, conferenciante y abogado especializado en derecho internacional. Es miembro del comité ejecutivo del Consejo para el Entendimiento Árabe-Británico y forma parte de la junta rectora de la Sociedad Británico- Egipcia. Es autor del libro Syria: From the Great War to Civil War (2014).
