Joyce Carol Oates (1938) es una de las grandes figuras de la literatura contemporánea estadounidense. A lo largo de seis décadas de trayectoria, ha publicado más de medio centenar de novelas, más de cuatrocientos relatos breves, más de una docena de libros de no ficción, once libros de poesía y nueve obras de teatro. Ha sido cinco veces finalista del Premio Pulitzer de Ficción y en 1970 obtuvo el National Book Award por x{0026}lt;i Them.x{0026}lt;/i Entre los muchos otros galardones que ha obtenido a lo largo de su carrera figuran el Premio PEN/Malamud a la excelencia en el arte del cuento , el Prix Fémina Étranger y, en España, el Premio BBK Ja!
