Biografía del autor

Henry David Thoreau (1817 1862) fue un escritor, ensayista y naturalista estadounidense, figura clave del trascendentalismo. Amigo y discípulo de Ralph Waldo Emerson, defendió una vida sencilla, la autosuficiencia y la primacía de la conciencia individual. Entre 1845 y 1847 vivió retirado en una cabaña junto a la laguna de Walden, experiencia que dio origen a i Walden /i (1854), su obra más influyente. Autor también del ensayo i Desobediencia civil /i (1849), su pensamiento ejerció una profunda influencia en los movimientos ecologistas, pacifistas y de derechos civiles del siglo xx, e inspiró a figuras como Gandhi y Martin Luther King.
