In the distant future, humans are on the verge of extinction and have settled in small tribes across the planet under the observation and care of the Mothers. Some children are made in factories, from cells of rabbits and dolphins; some live by getting nutrients from water and light, like plants. The survival of the race depends on the interbreeding of these and other alien beings - but it is far from certain that connection, love, reproduction, and evolution will persist among the inhabitants of this faltering new world.

Biografía del autor

P B Hiromi Kawakami /B nació en Tokio en 1958. Se dedicó a la enseñanza hasta la publicación de su primer libro de relatos, I Kamisama /I , por el que recibió el Premio Pascal. Desde entonces, se ha convertido en una de las escritoras más leídas y galardonadas de su país. En 1996 obtuvo el Premio Akutagawa por I Hebi o Fumu /I y, en el 2000, el Premio Ito Sei y el Woman Writer's por I Abandonarse a la pasión /I . Un año más tarde ganó el prestigioso Premio Tanizaki por I El cielo es azul, la tierra blanca /I (Alfaguara, 2017), posteriormente galardonada con el Man Asian Literary Prize y adaptada al cine con gran éxito.
