Leila Sales se crió en las afueras de Boston, Massachusetts, y se licenció en la Universidad de Chicago. Cuando finalizó los estudios, entró a trabajar en una editorial de literatura infantil y juvenil, donde sigue empleada. Publicó su primera novela en 2010 y desde entonces no ha parado de escribir.
