The air trembled, gold and green and clear, at the edges of the forest. A woman goes to the Austrian mountains to spend a few days in a hunting lodge with her cousin and his wife. When the couple fail to return from a walk, the woman tries to go into the village to look for them. Instead she comes across a transparent wall behind which there seems to be no life.

Biografía del autor

Marlen Haushofer (Frauenstein, Austria, 1920-Viena, 1970) estudió en Viena y Graz y más tarde vivió de la literatura en Steyr publicando novelas y relatos y escribiendo guiones radiofónicos. En 1968 obtuvo el Premio Nacional de Literatura austríaco, pero no recibió el reconocimiento que merecía hasta después de su muerte. En España se han publicado La puerta secreta (Siruela, 2003) y La buhardilla.
