Stephen Smith (1956, Connecticut) es periodista, escritor y académico. Durante muchos años fue corresponsal en África occidental y central para Radio France International y la agencia Reuters. Dirigió la sección África de los periódicos Libération y Le Monde y ejerció como analista para las Naciones Unidas y el International Crisis Group. Desde 2007 imparte clases de Estudios africanos en la Universidad de Duke. Ha publicado quince obras, entre las que destacan Negrología: por qué África se muere y Oufkir: un destin marocain, además de otras en coautoría con Antoine Glaser como Ces messieurs Afrique o Comment la France a perdu lx{0026} x02019;Afrique.
