Georgette Heyer, nació en Wimbledon, Londres, en 1902. Animada por su padre y para entretener a su hermano convaleciente, con solo diecinueve años, publicó su primera novela, The black moth (La polilla negra, 1921), dando comienzo a una carrera literaria colmada de éxitos. Autora de más de cincuenta novelas, escribió sin descanso un bestseller tras otro, la mayoría ambientados en el periodo de la Regencia. Su éxito constante a lo largo de medio siglo y su vigencia actual la confirman como un fenómeno literario único en la literatura del siglo XX, admirada por escritoras de la talla de A. S.
