With immaculate precision and sensitivity, de Waal, an exile herself, captures a city rebuilding and relearning its identity, and the people who have to do the same. Biografía del autor

p b Elisabeth de Waal /b (Viena, 1899-1991), de soltera Von Ephrussi, nació en el seno de una familia de aristócratas. Estudió filosofía, derecho y economía en la Universidad de Viena y, con tan solo diecinueve años, presentó una ponencia en el primero de los legendarios seminarios privados de Ludwig von Mises sobre economía. Obtuvo su doctorado en 1923 y fue becaria de la Fundación Rockefeller en la Universidad de Columbia. En 1928 se casó con el holandés Hendrik de Waal. Vivieron en París y luego en Suiza, y en 1939 se establecieron en Inglaterra. A finales de los cincuenta, De Waal escribió cinco novelas que no llegó a publicar, dos en alemán y tres en inglés, entre estas últimas i El regreso de los exiliados /i (2013; Libros del Asteroide, 2026).<br>
