'this is my book and i am writing it by my own hand' The year is eighteen hundred and thirty one when fifteen-year-old Mary begins the difficult task of telling her story. A scrap of a thing with a sharp tongue and hair the colour of milk, Mary leads a harsh life working on her father's farm alongside her three sisters.

In the summer she is sent to work for the local vicar's invalid wife, where the reasons why she must record the truth of what happens to her - and the need to record it so urgently - are gradually revealed.

Biografía del autor

(Glastonbury, Inglaterra, 1962) es novelista y dramaturga. Estudió Arte y trabajó como productora en televisión antes de dedicarse a la escritura tras el nacimiento de su segundo hijo. Fue galardonada con el Premio Evening Standard Theatre por su obra teatral Comfort Me with Apples. Bedlam fue la primera obra escrita por una mujer representada en el Shakespearex{0026} x02019;s Globe Theatre. Su primera novela, Black Dirt (2004), fue candidata al Orange Prize y finalista del Commonwealth Book Prize. En 2008 publicó Devotion. En Sexto Piso publicamos en 2013 Del color de la leche, que fue elegido Libro del Año en 2014 por el Gremio de Libreros de Madrid, y El show de Gary en 2016.
