Meir Shalev hijo del poeta Itzhak Shalev, nació en 1948 en Nahalal, en Israel, y es uno de los novelistas más admirados y populares de su país. Ha sido traducido a más de 20 idiomas y sus libros han sido best sellers en Israel, Italia, Francia, Holanda, y Alemania. Estudió psicología en la Universidad Hebrea y ha producido y presentado programas en emisoras de radio y televisión.<br>La pasión por la literatura no la ha heredado de los escritores de su familia, sino de las historias sobre mitos locales que le contaba su madre, que provenía de una familia de granjeros.<br>En 1999 recibió el premio Juliet Club y el premio Chiavari, ambos en Italia, así como la mención de honor del Primer Ministro de Israel. En el 2006 recibió el premio Brenner, el galardón literario más prestigioso de Israel, por El chico de las palomas. También ha sido galardonado con el premio Bernstein y el premio Scrivere per Amore.<br>Shalev es miembro de la Academia Bávara de las Artes de Munich y vive en Jerusalén con su esposa y sus hijos.
