Biografía del autor

(Viena, Austria, 1928). Nace en el seno de una familia judía de clase media. Hija única, en 1938 llega a Inglaterra junto a miles de niños judíos traídos desde Alemania, Austria y Checoslovaquia por el Kindertransport y vive con varias familias de acogida sucesivas. Se gradúa en la Universidad de Londres y, tras una estancia en la República Dominicana de Trujillo, se traslada a Nueva York, donde reside desde 1951. Ha escrito las novelas En casas ajenas (1964), que nació como una serie para The New Yorker y que ahora Xordica publica por primera vez en español, Lucinella (1976), Her First American (1985), Shakespearex{0026} x02019;s Kitchen (2007) x{0026} x02013;finalista del Premio Pulitzerx{0026} x02013; y Half the Kingdom (2013), traducida en España como Los centenarios (2016). También es autora de varias traducciones y numerosos libros infantiles.
