Jane Austen's novel tells the story of Marianne Dashwood, who wears her heart on her sleeve, and when she falls in love with the dashing but unsuitable John Willoughby she ignores her sister Elinor's warning that her impulsive behaviour leaves her open to gossip and innuendo. Meanwhile Elinor, always sensitive to social convention, is struggling to conceal her own romantic disappointment, even from those closest to her. Through their parallel experience of love - and its threatened loss - the sisters learn that sense must mix with sensibility if they are to find personal happiness in a society where status and money govern the rules of love.

Biografía del autor

Jane Austen (1775-1817) nació en Steventon, Inglaterra, donde su padre ejercía como clérigo anglicano. Fue la séptima de ocho hijos y desde joven mostró una gran pasión por la lectura y escritura. Sus novelas, entre las que destacan Orgullo y prejuicio, Sentido y sensibilidad y Emma, combinan una aguda ironía con una profunda observación de la sociedad de su tiempo. Austen, con su inconfundible mezcla de elegancia y sátira, plasmó con maestría la vida de la burguesía rural y las limitaciones impuestas a las mujeres en la Inglaterra georgiana. Aunque en vida publicó sus obras de forma anónima, su legado ha trascendido generaciones, consolidándola como un pilar fundamental de la literatura universal.
